The Spirit

Write up on the move “THE SPIRIT” After a fair panic and not finding the cinema I arrived just in time for the beginning, finding our protagonist gallivanting recklessly and humourously along the high electrical wires. The film was certainly in the vein of Dick Tracy with the humour and style of Sin City. As a film which didn’t seem to set itself out to be too serious, in fact a tongue in cheek look at Noir film with heroes and villains, didn’t go far enough. To have so much to take from, so much flavour and style of the Noir history books, Its tempting to say it was a let down. With all attention put into constructing perfectly composed frames and throwing immaculate lighting and a host of special effects we have seen in other movies by Frank Miller. It could be said the actors and script fell short of the mark made by the beautiful production. Comedy too obviously found its way o the set which was almost noticeable in the characters. This kind of movie, in my opinion should be taken very seriously and the humour; to be high brow and darker.
